WELCOME to Painting Nature's Essence! I am so excited and honoured to be gathering with you, to connect with Nature, the Elements and paint masterpieces together from our Hearts.
As we prepare for this journey ahead, dedicating time each week for intentional connection with Mother Nature, her elements and our own creative hearts to create heARTwork ~ I ask you to begin to ask these questions of your heart, of your Essence. Write these questions down somewhere you can ponder them...
Who Am I?
And under that, Who Am I? At the very core of my Essence... Who Am I?What does Nature mean to me? What is my personal relationship with Her? What parts of Nature do I feel most deeply connected with? (mountains, oceans, rivers, a particular tree or plant, a specific place etc.)
What is my relationship with the Elements; Earth, Air, Fire, Water and if each had a message for me at this moment in my life, what would it be?
Am I open and willing to allow these powerful energies of creation and Nature to FUEL my creative expression in unexpected, subtle and profound ways?
I invite you to spend intentional time in nature over the course of our journey, if possible; alone. Time in silence in nature, connecting and focusing on your ancient sacred heart beat and the breath, while practicing emptiness (allowing your mind to be empty) and drinking in the fullness of nature all around you.
Listen.
What does she wish to tell you? What animals, trees, rivers, rocks, grains of sand and massive mountains make their way onto your path... if they had a story, a voice, a message... what would it be? If you feel called to gather sacred items from nature as they appear on your path and speak to you; a leaf, a stone, a branch, a jar of water from a river or ocean to incorporate into your creative space, I invite you to begin intentionally setting your sacred creative space for our journey.

Creative Magic Materials List:
~ Acrylic Paint: I will be demonstrating with Liquitex Basics Acrylic, however ANY brand of acrylic paint is perfectly fine. I personally like using Liquitex Basics because it is less expensive, safe to get on your hands (which we will be doing YAY!) and I can give myself permission to use a LOT of paint if I wish to. Choose an acrylic paint and colours that speak to your soul.
Colour suggestions: Titanium White, Unbleached Titanium, Silver, Gold, Alizarin Crimson Hue, Cadmium Red Deep Hue, Primary Red or Naphthol Crimson, Primary Yellow, Cadmium Yellow Light Hue, Bright Aqua Green, Hooker's Green Hue Permanent, Ultramarine Blue, Cobalt Blue, Light Blue Permanent, Turquoise Blue, Deep Violet, Dioxazine Purple, Burnt Umber, Raw Umber, Raw Sienna, Mars Black and any other colours that call to you.
~ Gold Leaf Gold leaf comes in a package of sheets, look for the loose leaf sheets rather than attached to a backing to allow for more freedom. You can choose gold, silver or bronze leaf, whatever metallic leaf speaks to you! Gold Leaf Amazon
~ Modeling Paste Gel Medium (Liquitex or other brand) 237ml. Modeling Paste Amazon
~ 5 Canvases at least 16x20 inches or larger. For canvas on a budget, Michaels Art supplies sells bulk canvas packs.
~Pallet knife and Paint Brushes: a 3inch pallet knife (preferably metal rather than plastic) and soft synthetic paintbrushes in a range of sizes for small details and large under painting. Student grade synthetic brushes are great and inexpensive! You can get these at most Dollar stores and bulk packages at Michales art supplies. I recommend getting soft to touch synthetic brushes over natural hair or bristle. If you are painting larger than 16x20, make sure you have at least one paintbrush that is 1.5-2 inches wide (filbert or flat). A teeny tiny brush for details, and 2-3 sizes in between both flat and round top (filbert) shape. Pallet Knife set Amazon
